MicroTally® Samplers for Environmental Monitoring
MicroTally® environmental and equipment sampling products provide wearable sampling solutions that replace traditional, bulky, or labor-intensive collection methods. Constructed from a durable, non-woven spun-polymer cloth, each sampler features a textured fabric that physically traps and holds surface pathogens without tearing, linting, or leaving fibers behind.
The MicroMitt™
Engineered as a superior alternative to traditional sponges, the MicroMitt™ is designed for sample collection across plant equipment, food contact surfaces, and facility infrastructure. Its wearable design provides enhanced dexterity and expanded surface coverage, allowing QA personnel to capture representative microbial data efficiently without the bulk of sponges. Its thinner profile occupies less space in warehouse storage and sample shipping containers, reducing shipping costs and environmental impact.
The MicroBootie™
Engineered for field, floor, and foot-traffic sampling, the MicroBootie™ is worn securely over standard plant footwear or field boots to transform facility-wide environmental monitoring. This sterile, wearable sampler captures composite surface samples as technicians walk processing floors, produce fields, and poultry litter or broiler floors — replacing tedious point-by-point swabbing and manual soil or litter collection with aggregated walk-path sampling for a truer, broad-area snapshot of plant, field, or litter conditions.
Comparing Sponge to MicroTally® MicroMitt™
| Sponge | MicroTally® MicroMitt™ | |
|---|---|---|
| Handheld – Sponge block requiring a continuous pinch grip or fixed-angle handle | Wearable – Fits comfortably over four fingers, allowing techs to swipe surfaces naturally using standard hand movements | |
| Dexterity & Ergonomics | Restricted – Pinch grip and fixed handle angles restrict reach into tight crevices, recessed areas, and curved piping | Effortless – Natural finger mobility allows techs to contour around intricate machinery, flat/curved surfaces, and recessed areas without losing contact |
| Biofilm Disruption | Minimal – Soft sponge material compresses or slides over sticky bacterial matrices, making it difficult to physically shear and lift established biofilms. | High – Textured fabric combined with direct finger pressure physically breaks through tenacious biofilm layers to capture embedded pathogens. |
| Sample Size | Standard – 100 sq. cm. or 1 sq ft. | Larger – Standard or larger sample areas within the same time frame as traditional sponges due to increased surface area |
| Sample Volume & Shipping | Higher – Bulkier sponge blocks demand larger coolers and more ice packs, increasing freight cost. | 4x Thinner Profile – Flatter profile occupies 44% less overall bulk space, reducing coolant needs, cooler size, and overall freight spend. |
| Environmental Impact | Higher | 6x Lower – About ⅙ the landfill impact |
| Neutralizing Buffer | Comes Pre-Moistened | Comes Pre-Moistened |
